This button is in a 4Runner that’s at the shop for leather interior.

I’m sure it has something to do with the stereo,but it would be cool if it also dimmed the lights and started a fog machine...

That is for speakers in the rear hatch. When the hatch is closed they are close to the floor and wouldn’t project any worthwhile amount of sound, but when the hatch is open and you’re camping or tailgating...

But honestly they should have called it Hatch Speakers or something, because that’s not really Party Mode.

I could install it in the hatch itself, and the gold chain be a pull-down to expose the button

I think it just changes the balance to the rear speakers, so you could have the tailgate open with only those speakers playing. Not like every single radio doesn’t already have that option, but I guess Toyota felt that eliminating 2 additional button pushes/knob turns was worth it.

It’s used for switching vehicle behavior based on your political affiliation.

Press once for Conservative Mode. This will cause the radio to play loud classic rock and set the exhaust to bypass the catalytic converter.

Press twice for Liberal Mode. This will lock the radio in to NPR and will severely numb throttle response and cap maximum speed at 35 MPH.

A buddy of mine used to have a shitty econobox (maybe a Hyundai or something) that had a button labled “Swing Mode”. I was hoping that, by pressing it, I would begin some 1920s flapper party in the middle of I-75 traffic, but it only made the A/C vents ‘swing’ back and forth. Very disappointing.
